What to do around Play & Stay?

Walks and hikes

The Furfooz Nature Reserve is just a few minutes from the holiday home, and three signposted walking trails pass through the village. A few suggestions:

• Two circular walks (5.5 km and 7 km) start directly from the holiday home and lead back to the village through the forest.

• Échelles de la Lesse walk (9 km) – A circular walk starting in Gendron, following the Lesse through the woods, with a few steeper sections.

• “Sur les plains” trail (10.65 km) – An easy circular walk passing through Mesnil-Saint-Blaise, through woodland and across open countryside.

Kayaking, climbing and outdoor activities

Kayaking: start your descent of the Lesse in Gendron, just 10 minutes from the holiday home.

Golf: tee off at the Royal Golf Club du Château Royal d’Ardenne (20 minutes away), with its 18-hole course.

Adventure: in Dinant, Dinant Evasion (15 minutes away) offers a range of activities, including adventure courses, kayaking, mountain biking, paintball and caving. Electric scooter tours are also available in the area.

Climbing: head to the famous Freÿr cliffs (9 minutes away), one of Belgium’s best-known climbing spots.

Villages, castles and heritage

Celles (15 minutes away) – One of the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia, with its stone houses, collegiate church and hermitage.

Château de Vêves (13 minutes away) – An iconic medieval castle, easy to combine with a walk in the Furfooz Nature Reserve.

Château de Freÿr (17 minutes away) – A château in the Mosan Renaissance style, with gardens, an orangery and spectacular views over the Meuse from the cliffs opposite.

Château de Walzin (16 minutes away) – Known as the “Belgian Neuschwanstein”, this castle is perched 50 metres above the Lesse and can be admired from the surrounding walking trails.

Swimming and relaxation

In Houyet, the natural swimming area Au Cœur de l’Hileau is a lovely place to enjoy the water in warm weather. Before heading out, check the other official wild swimming areas and their current status.

You’ll also find a public swimming pool in Beauraing and the Rivéa aquatic centre in Givet.

Dinant, its riverside terraces and history

Dinant (20 minutes away) is a must-see during a stay in the region.

Discover:

• the museum dedicated to Adolphe Sax

• the banks of the Meuse and their riverside terraces

• boat cruises

• small self-drive boats that do not require a licence

• a wide range of sports and outdoor activities

A little further afield: beer, cheese and wine

Givet (15 minutes away, in France) – Visit the Rivéa aquatic centre, the Europe shopping centre and enjoy boat trips on the Meuse. You can also discover the Grottes de Nichet caves and grab a bite to eat nearby.

Maredsous Abbey (32 minutes away) – Visit the abbey and taste its iconic beer and open sandwich topped with abbey cheese.

Annevoie Gardens (33 minutes away) – Take a relaxing break in these beautiful gardens, known for their cascades and water features.

Bioul (35 minutes away) – Discover its château and vineyard, with guided tours and unusual experiences such as gourmet picnics and tastings.
